THE Australian and Victorian governments in partnership with Pyrenees Shire Council have marked the completion of a high quality lighting upgrade at Beaufort’s Goldfields Recreation Reserve.

The more than $630,000 project was supported by $236,155 from the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, $250,000 from the Victorian Government and more than $145,000 from the Pyrenees Shire Council.

The project, benefiting Beaufort’s sporting clubs, was a significant undertaking and included a full electrical system upgrade, completed by Powercor, to enable the power capacity for upgraded lighting.

The new system and lights meet Australian standards and means that local clubs can train at the oval throughout the year in improved conditions.

Minister for Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King joined Ripon MP Martha Haylett and Mayor Robert Vance at the reserve last Friday to mark the completion of the project.

“We’re really pleased to support this important project with funding from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program,” said Minister King.

“Whether it’s the Little Athletics or the Football Club, I’ve no doubt this upgrade will be well received and be of real benefit to the community.

“Across the country and right here in Beaufort we’re partnering with State and Local Governments to deliver the infrastructure and facilities local communities deserve.

Ms  Haylett said the upgrade was a win for local sports.

“The Beaufort Crows are at the heart of our community and this lighting upgrade will encourage even more locals to join the club and get active.

“The new lights won’t just make our local sporting events better, but they’ll also shine a light on the much-loved Beaufort Annual Show and other festivals too,” she said.

Mayor Vance said the project shows what can be achieved when different levels of government work together.

“I thank everyone involved in the project including both levels of government and Powercor.
