VERSATILE mid-courter Megan Mullane capped off her 2022 season at Beaufort by winning the A-Grade’s best-and-fairest medal.

Mullane was a key cog in a mid-court overflowing with talent at the Crows this season; a part of the court which played a significant role in the team’s deep finals run.

The award is Mullane’s first at Beaufort and one which came as a surprise to her; coming into the night adamant goalkeeper Maggie Quinlan, whom Mullane beat by one vote, would take home the prize.

“I didn’t even expect to be up there that high because I thought Maggie had it in the bag all year, she was my best-and-fairest,” Mullane said.

“I was more shocked than anything else when it popped up that I had won. I’m still kind of getting my head around it all.”

Mullane was one of several players tried across several positions in the mid-court – moving from her regular position at Wing-Defence to Wing-Attack and even Centre, where she was tasked of marking Rokewood’s Kate Omeara, who would go on to be named the Central Highlands League best-and-fairest.

“It allows us to be really unpredictable for other teams,” Mullane said.

“We can change about four different players into four positions which is really handy, especially coming into finals where players can get really exhausted or someone’s not having the best week you can swap players out and it won’t be to the team’s detriment.”

Defender Maggie Quinlan, in addition to being named runner-up in Beaufort’s best-and-fairest, received the Marcia Morrison award as well as the Players’ Choice.

Goal-Shooter Eliza Christian was named Beaufort’s best finals player, while Goal-Attack Linda Powell was awarded the team’s most consistent player.

This comes at the end of a successful season for the Crows who finished fifth at the end of the home-and-away season and knocked out in a thrilling one-goal semi-final defeat to Rokewood.

While Beaufort fell two games short of the ultimate prize, Mullane believes the side has set the foundations for an even better 2023.
